April 2024 Newsletter

SPREADING EASTER LOVE

As April unfolds, the embrace of autumn grows stronger, while children continue to revel in the delights bestowed by the Easter Bunny. This year brings a heightened sense of freedom, as we joyfully reconnect with loved ones over Easter meals and outings with friends.

Moreover, Super Cops proudly spread the love at the Apricot tree home for kids. With our friend the Easter bunny we brought joy and smiles to the kids that needed it the most. It’s our passion to serve our community in every way we can and we go out of our way to always make a difference.

7 Gauteng suburbs rank high as human trafficking hotspots

Springs, Benoni, Fordsburg, Krugersdorp, Sunnyside, Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark has been ranked as human trafficking hotspots.

The information was released in an anti-trafficking campaign on Freedom Day by NGOs, A21, The National Freedom Network and Think Creative Africa.

The 7 Gauteng suburbs were not the only hotspots in the province. According to #TheTraffickYouNeedToKnow campaign, Hillbrow, Heidelberg, Moreleta Park, Pretoria, Randburg and Springs were also likely exploitation areas.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) said 79% of human trafficking is for sexual exploitation.

In 30% of countries, women make up the largest number of people exploited by trafficking.

The second most common form of trafficking is forced labour, with 20% of trafficked victims being children.

Human trafficking generates more than R258 trillion a year, with an estimated 2.8 out of every 1000 people in Africa forming part of the numbers.

Of all trafficked victims in Africa, approximately 64% are children.

The UNODC says only a small percentage of victims manage to escape or are saved. Human trafficking is the second-largest and fastest growing organised crime in the world.
